On leaving the main road at Roy Bridge and travelling up Glen Roy, we see on our left the Height of Mulroy, a small hill which is said by some to have been the scene of the last inter clan battle in the Highlands between the MacKintoshes and the MacDonells(MacDonalds)of Keppoch.
On the right, further on and on the far side of the River Roy, is the farm of Achaderry. Above it is Maol Doire, a hill which commands an excellent view of all roads and passes in the area. On top is a large boulder with a rude cross cut into the stone. An immemorial oral tradition asserts that the Sacrifice of the Mass used to be offered at this spot during the times when the Roman Catholic faith was proscribed. Any approaching intruders could be quickly spotted from this vantage point.
About a mile or so further on, on the left, is the house known as Coille Diamhain. Before Alexander, 5th chief of Keppoch, was elected, he lived here with his wife who was of Irish descent. She brought with her, Irish retainers- Burkes, Boyles, Kellys etc. - who settled in Lochaber. Most of them later adopted the surname MacDonald. This lady disappeared mysteriously and her body was never found. It is thought she either drowned in the neighbouring burn, Allt-Ionndrainn (the wandering burn) or was murdered. Her ghost is reputed to haunt the woods and nearby green slopes, the landscape reminding her of her beloved Ireland.
The road descends steeply and a bridge at the bottom of the descent carries it across Allt-Ionndrainn to an equally steep ascent on the further side. We then come to the little hamlet of Bohuntinville and then Bohuntin Mòr. On either side of the road are long narrow strips of cultivation.
