Henrietta Swynford’s notes re people attending her uncle Ewen MacDonell, Inch’s funeral in 1891

Amongst those at the funeral:-
Ewen Cameron 88 (1806-1896 retired cattle dealer) living in outhouses of Killiechonate House … married a sister of MacArthur, Achluacrach. (Sarah 1822-1890) He had a son (Angus b1865) who was killed in Glasgow.
…met a son of Alan Mor 1800-1875 who is 27 (Donald b 22 June 1863), drove my father and I in the coach up Glencoe. He is a cousin of Donald the driver at Roy Bridge Hotel and a nephew of Angus Mor 1811-1886.
We also met Donald Campbell (1852-1927). His mother (Catherine MacDonald Clianaig 1819-1921) was a sister of Angus Mor - who was a shepherd at Keppoch and father also of the four girls at the Post Office and shop. Campbell’s father (John) was shot by MacNab (the brother of Mrs Angus, Keppoch) of Dalhoolie (sic) while on a shoot.
Old Angus MacDonald (Burke) 1829-1894 who was formerly for many years employed as gillie and gardener at Keppoch and is now employed at Spean Lodge. He is a Bohuntin man and lives there with his two unmarried sisters. He is unmarried, 62, and is a cousin of Canon Donald MacKintosh, Chersona. 1844-1919
John MacDonald,1814-1880 the smith at Inverroy ( Bunroy ) died 10 years ago.
Angus Boyle 1822-1900 whose father was Alexander Boyle of Bohuntin is now employed at D P’s distillery. He was at funeral.
Mr (Walter) Burton, the manager at Inch attended. His wife is Mary Cameron from near Oban.
(His daughter, Catherine married John MacDonald , innkeeper, Unachan in 1856 and daughter, Margaret married Donald MacKintosh, gamekeeper at Strathossian in 1854)
Allan and James Miller from Fort William. One was once a tutor at Cranachan.

Allan MacDonald, Inch, a shepherd to Uncle Angus and to John and Coll. He is 72, a fine strong man. His father was shepherd there before him.
(Allan 1819-1894 was born at Inch. His father was Archibald MacDonald and mother Ann Mackintosh.His brother was Rev Donald MacDonald. He married Ann MacDonald then Catherine MacDonald who had also been married before.)
Ferguson (Alex 1823- ) who lives near Inch, not far from Cour bridge was a shepherd to my uncle. His wife (Janet 1831-) is a daughter of old Samuel Campbell (Strathossian 1778-1862) who died at an old age, 40 years ago. He was in service at Keppoch. (Two of the Ferguson children went to Invercargill, NZ)
MacKenzie’s weavers : Formerly in house, now ruined, on the west side of Cour bridge were shepherds and weavers at Inch. The sons left the country and one left for Badenoch. A year ago he came to live in Murlaggan. He is married to a sister of Murlaggan.*
*(Mistake- Michael MacDonald 1811-1895 son of Austin(Hugh)1785-1870 Achnafraschoille married Grizzel (Grace) MacMaster 1823-1887, Loch Treig ….not a sister of Murlaggan) His brothers went to Canada and Australia but Allan and Roderick stayed in Lochaber. His sister Margaret 1817-1866 was married to a John MacDonald (March of Achluacrach 1811-1862 who drowned near the Gorge at Monessie)
Sandy Bohenie says that this man’s grandfather wove my grandfather’s tartan coat which I now possess.
? of Highbridge did not come as he’s old but he sent his son, a quiet well built fellow who has been in Glasgow.
Student MacDonald, Clianaig, ( Fr Sam (MacGillivantic) MacDonald b.1866 ordained 1894, son of John MacGillivantic and Flora Campbell, grandson of the above mentioned Samuel Campbell) assisted at the altar. He is studying for church in Paris. His mother and sister live at Clianaig.
Angus MacIntosh ( Angus Ban) b.1839 a son of the old Pensioner (John MacIntosh 1778-1875) who was at Corunna with my grandfather. He is living at Bohuntin with his two sisters. He is a fine big fellow some 52 years unmarried. His brother, Donald is 60. He is a rolling stone. He is no relation to the canon.
Angus has a croft and is a ghillie. ( His mother was Ann Stewart 1797-1857)
Old Mrs Boyle (Jane/Jean 1808-1894), daughter of old Mrs Grant (Ann MacBarnett 1788-1874) who was foster mother to Chichester, is alive and well. M&I went to see her in 1891. Her son John 1845-1924 lives with her. He is a fine fellow. She also has two daughters. A daughter, Sarah b1841 was a dairymaid to Lady Gordon at ? Her son Archie 1832-1891 married (Mary MacDonald, Laggan) and has left children at Glenfinnan and Invermoriston. I think Mrs Boyle is 85. She was once a servant at Inch and lives in Bohuntin.
Canon Donald Mackintosh (Chersona) 1844-1919, no relation to Fr Alex MacKintosh. Donald is from Bohuntin and is first cousin to Angus (Burk) MacDonald. Fr Alex 1852-1922 is a son of William MacKintosh 1810-1870 (and Grace MacPherson 1820-1894), a brother of Sheamus Mor MacKintosh 1799-1882 of Murlaggan.He is therefore 1st cousin to Sandy MacKintosh, 1842-1928, Murlaggan and to Annie 1838-1937, Sandy (Alexander MacDonald 1840-1923) Bohenie’s wife.
Cranachans. Donald 1821-1908 and Colin 1823-1899 came. Archie 1814-1892 and Sandy 1815-1902 seldom go to church. They are troubled with rheumatism.
